Yesterday Micah Redding and I spent a few hours in a fascinating online discussion with Prof. Frank J. Tipler, covering Tipler’s ideas, papers, books, physics (a lot of that) and theology. Watch the full video below.
The Turing Church Online Workshop 2 on Sunday December 11, 2011, explored transhumanist spirituality and “Religion 2.0″, the convergence of science and religion, highly imaginative future science and technologies for resurrection, emerging science and technologies for immortality.
Today I found by chance an important bit of personal history: my very first post to the Extropians list, on December 6, 1999. It is interesting to see many of the ideas which I have been thinking and writing about in these 13 years already covered in that first post.
I copied here this old interview with Frank J. Tipler, published on the Transhumanity Magazine of the World Transhumanist Association (now Humanity +) in November 2002.
Recently on Facebook a friend asked: “Hey, atheist friends, I need your help. I would like to listen and read what do you do when you lose somebody who you loved? I have tried several ways to ease the pain, but it is still there.” He addressed his atheist friends because evidently he didn’t want to hear about a supernatural afterlife. I took the liberty to offer my vision of a natural afterlife following technological resurrection, based on science and engineering.
I am a big Tipler fan, see for example Interview with Frank. J. Tipler (Nov. 2002), and Review of The Physics of Christianity, by Frank Tipler.
