Virtual Turing Church – Brainstorm
This is a brainstorm session on how to design and launch a Virtual Turing Church. As usual I am sending this post to several mailing lists, Facebook pages and discussion groups, but I would appreciate it of you could comment on the Turing Church website (commenting is much easier now) to have all inputs in the same place.
Three Turing Church projects
So these are my Turing Church projects. Feel free to start yours.
New Disqus comment system
Disqus is more or less a standard comment system these days, so I installed it to replace the old comment system. You can comment using any of your social media identities, or create a new one. All existing comments have been imported to Disqus. Please test!
Turing Church online discussion spaces
I created a Turing Church subreddit: r/turingchurch. This post is about existing and future Turing Church online discussion spaces.
New comments policy
The recent site problems were due to thousands of spam comments every day, coming in too fast for the system and the database to cope with. I guess that’s the price to pay when a site starts to become popular. What I did after repairing the database was:
SOLVED Site problem – all comments gone
All comments disappeared, which is really disappointing because there were many excellent comments. I will try and do something to recover.
UPDATE – SOLVED with this excellent WP database repair tool: WP-DBManager. I also deleted more than 8,000 spam users, added CAPTCHA to the comment form, and disabled new user registration, please write if you want to register a user here.
