Zoltan Istvan
Zoltan Istvan‘s first talk in Second Life.

I found especially interesting the last part of Zoltan Istvan’s talk where he touched transhumanist spirituality and confirmed my impression that his militant atheism is mostly political posturing. Zoltan is open to transhumanist spirituality, including the possibility that future “Akashic physics” could retrieve the dead from unseen quantum oceans and bring them back to life. In fact Zoltan’s novel “The Transhumanist Wager,” often reviewed as a rabid anti-religion manifesto, includes the foundations of a new, Cosmist scientific religion.

See also the video of Zoltan’s recent talk at The Church of Perpetual Life, and an article published a few days ago in International Business Times, titled “Virtual reality heaven: How technology is redefining death and the afterlife,” about Terasem, the Church of Perpetual Life, and Akashic physics.

Audience
A snapshot of the audience.

More than 60 avatars attended the Colloquium, which is not bad for a weekday event in Second Life during US working hours, and shows that Second Life – once a media darling and a Next Big Thing – is still very much alive and a good platform for immersive virtual communities. Next-generation platforms like Philip Rosedale’s High Fidelity and Linden Lab’s Project Sansar are coming in 2016 with support for immersive virtual reality headsets and interfaces, which is likely to trigger a new, massive wave of interest in virtual worlds. Get ready for future Terasem events in Second Life and next-generation virtual worlds!
